Bill Tracker: SB 105 North Texas Law School

Early on in this legislative session I talked about SB 105 that would create a new law school in Dallas. I wanted to track the bill’s progress.

The bill passed out of committee and was voted upon by the Senate. On April 23, 2007, the Senate passed the bill and sent it over to the House by a vote of 27-4. The bill currently resides in the House Higher Education Committee.

Senator Royce West is quoted as saying, “Over the past fifty years other cities have expanded their higher educational services faster than the Dallas area, and our population growth rate has outpaced our institutional capacities. The UNT College of Law will be an important service to many fine students who are shut out of legal education now, and, along with the new UNT at Dallas campus, will bring quality education opportunities to the heart of the metropolitan area.”

If approved, the law school would be open for students in 2009.
