IN-07: Julia Carson Succeeded By Grandson

While the voters of Mississippi were casting their ballots yesterday, there was a special election in Indiana's 7th Congressional District to replace Democratic Representative Julia Carson. Representative Carson passed away in December 2007.

In yesterday's election, her grandson, Democrat Andre Carson, easily won his first term as Representative from the 7th Congressional District.

Wyoming Caucuses For Obama

Howdy Texas Blue readers! I'm checking in from the Looney Bean in Bishop, California to report on the Wyoming caucuses.

With 91% of precincts reporting, Barack Obama leads Hillary Clinton 58% to 41%. CNN has called Wyoming for Obama.

Tom Craddick Had A Great Night

Showing that he's still got an iron fist and the resources to throw some serious political punches, Speaker Tom Craddick had a great night on both sides of the isle.

Noriega Wins Nomination

As of the 5:01am results on the Secretary of State's Elections website with 99% of precincts reporting statewide, Rick Noriega looks to have won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate with just over one million votes, 50.97% of the total votes cast. This total means that he will not face a runoff with the second highest vote getter, perennial empty suit Gene Kelly.

Hagee Endorses McCain, Angers Donahue

Stop me if you've heard this one before: The head of the Catholic League, the televangelist pastor of Texas' largest mega-church and a Senator from Arizona walk into a bar...

Upon seeing yesterday's news about Catholic League head Bill Donahue's displeasure over Senator John McCain's buddy act with Cornerstone Church Pastor John Hagee, I don't think we're going to be seeing that scene anytime soon.

Blastocyst-Americans For Huckabee

On Monday, former Arkansas Governor and Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee endorsed a "Colorado Human Life Amendment" ballot initiative that defines personhood as beginning with the fertilization of the egg.

The Mercy Rule

I'm not sure that having the Rudy Giuliani-endorsing Governor of Texas making homey six man football analogies about Mike Huckabee is really the best way to dismiss his campaign among Texas conservatives:

Early Voting Update

To update George's article about early voting numbers in Texas, I've taken the county totals for Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar, Travis and Denton (since it's the home of The Blue) through the first three days of early primary voting in 2008 versus the first three days of early primary voting in 2004 (all data from the Secretary of State's website):

Chet Edwards Endorses Barack Obama

I have to say that this one comes as a surprise to me: Representative Chet Edwards has endorsed Senator Barack Obama in March 4th's primary and caucus here in Texas.

Running On Fumes

The Texas GOP has filed a records request to gain access to Lt. Col. Rick Noriega's military records. The National Guard Lt. Col. and Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate denied the Texas GOP's request, stating instead that he will release his military records to all Texans in the coming weeks.
