Department Of inJustice Under Scrutiny

A Senate committee is looking into the allegation that Sen. Pete Domenici (R-New Mexico) and Rep. Heather Wilson (R-New Mexico) pressured a federal prosecutor on a corruption case against Democratic candidates before the last fall elections.

Evidently Sen. Domenici and Rep. Wilson were dissatisfied with the speed at which the federal prosecutor was moving the case forward. They apparently wanted the prosecutor to ratchet up the case just before folks were going to the polls this past fall.

The federal prosecutor, David Iglesias, claims he felt leaned on and sickened by the phone calls he received by the Republican congressional members. Iglesias is one of eight prosecutors recently fired by the DOJ. According to email records, the recently dismissed attorneys have the understanding that cooperation with Congress or speaking to the press will assuredly lead to the DOJ pulling off the gloves.
