The Texas Blue
Advancing Progressive Ideas

Happy New Year, and Welcome

I am pleased to welcome you both to 2007 and to The Texas Blue.

2006 was a long year with many victories and some requisite defeats. There was also a seemingly unending string of things to discuss concerning Texas politics, so much so that a few of us decided we needed a centralized place to have those discussions - about big ideas, where we're going, and where we'd like to be.

Curtis Clinesmith, Karl Lynch, George Nassar and I have worked hard to develop this publication, and we are proud of the results. Through the next year, we will continue to work hard on it, constantly improving the tools so that the work can be done - the important work of talking about those big ideas. We're going to enjoy bringing The Texas Blue to you, and I hope you enjoy your role in advancing progressive ideas.

Happy New Year, and thanks for coming. I hope you stick around.

RE: I think Texas Blue will be a great place for Democrats!

I think Texas Blue will be a great rallying point for Democrats. While I like the Burnt Orange Report, this seems to be more focused on Democrats on a state wide basis. Remember, to win this state, we can't just focus on Travis County and the inside game.

We need to work on adding Bexar, Harris and Tarrant to Cameron, Dallas, El Paso, Hildalgo, Jefferson, Nueces, Travis and Webb in the Democratic column and run more competitively in places like Johnson County (south of Dallas and Tarrant counties), where Congressman Chet Edwards came within 8 votes of winning. We Democrats need to look at what Chet Edwards and crew are doing in order to win in Texas!

Johnson County

You know, I grew up in Johnson County and went to Cleburne High School. I think the explosive growth in the north end of the county, especially around Burleson, would benefit area Democrats.

Chet Edwards cannot be denied - he definitely has something good going on.
