President Cheney Doesn't Shut Down YDA

Saturday was the final full day of the YDA National Convention in Dallas. Early attendance was a little on the anemic side as many folks celebrated progressive values into the wee hours of the morning. Democratic Presidential candidate Mike Gravel had to cancel his appearance, but the audience still got its money's worth with DNC Vice Chair Susie Turnbull and Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez.

The highlight of Saturday morning for me was the free Campisi's pizza at the Hillary for President lunch. Actually, that was the secondary highlight; the primary highlight was hearing Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee, Democrat from Houston's 18th District, talk about her support for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nominee. Some high notes from the address:

  • "Let's not eat our own. Let's look toward winning in 2008."
  • "As I stand here today, I'll tell you this: 90 days from when Hillary Rodham Clinton is sworn in, the troops will come home and the war in Iraq will be over."
  • "If you want the kind of candidate who will make the Swift Boaters wish that they never left the shore, join us."
  • "As we speak here in this air conditioned room, people your age are on the front lines in Iraq. That's what politics is all about. That's how serious it is. It's life or death."
