Handicapping the New Media Candidates: John McCain's YouTube Channel
Fri, 06/29/2007 - 12:15pm
I will admit it — I look at campaign websites all the time, and I am honestly interested in how they use new media, such as YouTube or blogs. The campaigns, likewise, all seem very interested in blazing some trails, but the results are sometimes uneven.
Friday Roundup: A Busy Week
Fri, 06/29/2007 - 7:00am
The Texas Transportation Commission agreed with Dewhurst, the Regional Transportation Council, and most everyone but Cintra that NTTA should handle the 121 Toll Road contract. There may be some discontent over the decision from Cintra, and Cintra will get it anyways if they can't get everything tied up in 45 days, but it looks like a deal is, as they say, a deal.
Thursday Roundup: The Long And Winding (Toll) Road
Thu, 06/28/2007 - 7:55am
The State Highway 121 toll project is a big deal in many circles of Texas government these days. Even though the Texas Transportation Commission says they are "encouraged by the competition," things are getting complicated.
Wednesday Roundup: Just Kidding
Wed, 06/27/2007 - 7:00am
Dick Cheney wants you to know that he is actually part of the executive branch. Again. Or has been all this time. Politico says that Cheney's office is doing away with the argument, and they link it specifically(!) to Rahm Emanuel's moves to deny them executive branch funding.
The Return of Corporate Electioneering
Tue, 06/26/2007 - 12:31pm
Let's assume for a second that we belong to a multi-trillion-dollar corporation, and we don't like a specific candidate. Before Monday's decision by the Supreme Court, we wouldn't have been able to run fake issue ads against that candidate within 60 days of an election. But now we can!
TDP Cries Foul On Perry's Veto Of College Funds
Mon, 06/25/2007 - 1:57pm
The response to Rick Perry's veto of funding for community colleges has been pretty homogeneous: no one likes it. Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie has some guesses as to why.
Monday Roundup: Immigration Defenestration
Mon, 06/25/2007 - 7:00am
In a display that I'm sure surprises no one, both members of the Texas delegation to the US Senate are refusing to play ball on immigration reform.
Friday Roundup: Quico Goes A-Courtin'
Fri, 06/22/2007 - 7:00am
The Quorum Report has what Harvey would no doubt call some Sizzlin' Buzz: Francisco "Quico" Canseco has begun campaigning in earnest for the GOP nomination in the 23rd Congressional District. According to QR, he's got staffers, he's got radio, and he's already three deep in direct mail.
Breaking News: Grasping At Straws
Thu, 06/21/2007 - 10:00am
I received an email from Politico yesterday about how Barack Obama won the Politico Straw Poll. I don't know that I would have classified it as a Breaking News Alert, with all the capital letters, but I see why they are excited: they sponsored the poll of activists attending Take Back America.
Wednesday Roundup: Jumping Ship
Wed, 06/20/2007 - 7:57am
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was, up until last night, something many Texans have encountered in the past: a Democrat who switched parties and then enjoyed electoral success. Last night, however, something different happened, something rarer — what you might call "pulling a Jeffords:" he left the Republican Party.
