Open Derision

How are GOP congressmen responding to House Minority Leader John Boehner's plan for a committee to advise (read: hammer mercilessly) the NRCC?

“It’s a joke,” one Republican member said. “And not even a well-written one.”

Politico has the strange tale of John Boehner, GOP consensus-builder.

Another Day, Another Rant

Today was President Bush's weekly press-rant against Congressional Democrats, who he blames for everything from energy prices to economic problems. Is this kind of regular railing at the majority party normal lame-duck behavior? Someone give me some historical context.

KBR Re-Hired Child Pornographer

Last month I wrote about contracting giant KBR's issues with employees' pillaging in Iraq and KBR employees sexually assaulting other KBR employees.

Sadly, it appears that KBR has dug even deeper. Think Progress reports that KBR had re-hired a man who had been fired in 2006 for possessing child pornography. The person in question, Ira Waltrip, is being detained in Austin under Federal Judge Robert Pittman's orders after being caught with child pornography again last month in Baghdad.

GravelWatch

The always entertaining Mike Gravel and election phenom Obama Girl have teamed up in a new video. This is kind of like what would happen if MC Hammer got together Kanye West or something. Actually, I'm not sure what the analog would be for the music all the kids listen to. My first instinct was to go with Lionel Richie joining Q-Tip for a couple of tracks. I am apparently a few years behind.

More Clinton Loans

AP is reporting that Senator Hillary Clinton made over $6 million in loans to her campaign in the last 30 days or so. This doubles up and then some on her previous campaign loan of $5 million.

McCain Has a Very Bad Night

John McCain is the presumptive nominee and has been for long enough that the remaining Republican primaries don't matter. That doesn't mean that failing to garner 80 percent of the vote in those remaining primaries isn't really embarrassing, or that unreasonably strong showings by Huckabee, Romney and Paul don't imply serious problems for McCain with the Republican base.

The (Grand Old) Party's Over

MSNBC's First Read has a mashup of several signs and signifiers that McCain's hayride on Easy Street is about to come to an abrupt end.

Schneider On North Carolina

CNN's Bill Schneider has some numbers on Obama's projected victory in North Carolina.

Indiana Leans Clinton's Way, North Carolina Called For Obama

I'm getting the numbers for this news item here and here.

8:30pm UPDATE: Indiana shows 73% reporting, 52%-48% for Senator Hillary Clinton. North Carolina shows 47% reporting, 57%-41% for Senator Barack Obama. All numbers from the CNN links above.
