Lone Star Project and Skewed AG Investigations of Voter Fraud
Tue, 04/01/2008 - 3:30pm
Today I received a new email from the Lone Star Project. In it, Matt Angle points to a new article on Alternet concerning the investigations by the Texas Attorney General's office of alleged voter fraud. The peg?
State's Attorney General has prosecuted Democrats who help seniors vote by mail while ignoring documented Republican ballot box stuffing.
Food Stamps and You

The New York Times and other outlets report that the Congressional Budget Office has some bad forecasts amid a torrent of bad economic news. The CBO projects that food stamps will be used by some 28 million Americans this year. That number is an all-time high and prompted the UK's Independent to declare that these levels of food stamp use indicate the United States is headed for or currently in a new Great Depression.
A Financial Episode of Dilbert

George, After reading your comments about the Treasury Secretary's new proposal, I thought you might want to read this article by Paul Krugman. He is a full Professor of Economics at Princeton.
Links added for reference. The aforementioned article is essentially an indictment of Treasury Secretary Paulson's — and by extension, the Bush administration's — new financial regulatory strategy as little more than a new org chart one might see in a Dilbert strip. I think Krugman's right.

In addition, none of the systems that the GAO looked at had met all of the standards for best management practices during their development stages.
The NFL is Full of Liberals
Mon, 03/31/2008 - 3:59pm
For as long as I can remember, the NFL has set the first game of the season on the first Thursday after Labor Day. This year that also happens to be the night that John McCain is supposed to do his victory lap at the Republican National Convention as he accepts his party's nomination. Politico's J-Mart thinks this might end up as a big deal.

Mon, 03/31/2008 - 2:00pm
Sift through today's news long enough and you might come across some really bad news for cell phone users. A new study claims that using cell phones for 10 years can double the risk of brain cancer. The study, by award-winning neurosurgeon Dr. Vini Khurana, claims that cell phone use could be more deadly than smoking or asbestos exposure.
The Pre-Convention Convention

The superdelegate convention idea is starting to gain traction, and that link heads to a Politico piece which posits that something similar is already underway.
Another Bush Crony Bails Out

Alphonso Jackson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, resigned today. Jackson was under investigation by the Department of Justice, the FBI, and his own department's inspector general for allegations of political favoritism.
