News Digest, 2/6/08: Yesterday Was Super Tuesday
Wed, 02/06/2008 - 9:18am
Super Tuesday is over. Need I say more?
Some Late Thoughts
Wed, 02/06/2008 - 2:09am
There's going to be plenty to examine tomorrow, but some of the finer points from this evening are immediately apparent.
Alaska and New Mexico
Wed, 02/06/2008 - 1:47am
Romney takes Alaska and New Mexico looks like it will go Obama although it is very close. Phillip Martin sent me this, which is a close examination of how the vote in New Mexico is shaking out: a dead heat at 48/48 with 95% reporting.
Obama Squeaks By In Missouri
Wed, 02/06/2008 - 12:10am
At 98% of precincts reporting, Obama had just taken the vote lead in Missouri with about 4,000 votes. We're up to 99% of precincts as of approximately a minute ago, and his lead's gone up to 7,000. We're calling Missouri for Obama.
Obama Takes Alaska, NBC Calls Missouri
Tue, 02/05/2008 - 11:52pm
Obama wins the Alaska Democratic caucuses and NBC is using the term "Apparent Winner" to describe McCain and Obama in Missouri. "Apparent Winner" is a new one on me.
The Story of Romney
Tue, 02/05/2008 - 11:38pm
I'm not sure I see a way for Romney to continue much longer. Huckabee split some of the vote by winning across the South, and the Romney camp was hanging it all on California to equalize and bring the race back to some sort of balance.
Romney in Serious Trouble
Tue, 02/05/2008 - 11:38pm
Looks like McCain's picked up California and Missouri. Romney's picked up Montana — not that it probably matters much; MSNBC's reporting (on TV; no link yet) that Romney's looking at having "frank discussions" about the state of the campaign tomorrow, and has already started canceling events after Thursday.
MSNBC Calls California for Clinton and McCain
Tue, 02/05/2008 - 11:15pm
With 15% reporting, MSNBC calls it for Clinton and McCain. No one else has, and it seems a little early, but Clinton's early lead is pretty large. We're not convinced just yet.
Missouri Very, Very Close for Dems
Tue, 02/05/2008 - 11:09pm
Less than 3,200 votes separate the candidates in Missouri with 97% reporting: Clinton 49%, Obama 48%. Update: At 98%, Obama and Clinton have swapped, and Obama has about 4,900 votes' worth of a lead.
Obama, Romney Take Colorado
Tue, 02/05/2008 - 10:58pm
Colorado Republicans have gone for Romney, and Democrats for Obama. Obama also picked up Utah, Romney Minnesota, and Huckabee looks imminent in Tennessee.
California numbers are starting to come in, and Clinton and McCain are looking strong.
