The Texas Blue: News

Daily News, 4/2/2008: Est. 1979

April Fool's Day reached into politics yesterday, with humorous results.

The Fix Is In

Washington Post blogger Chris Cillizza just released his collection of the nation's top political blogs as picked by him and his readers. His picks for Texas? It looks like we made the list.

Lone Star Project and Skewed AG Investigations of Voter Fraud

Today I received a new email from the Lone Star Project. In it, Matt Angle points to a new article on Alternet concerning the investigations by the Texas Attorney General's office of alleged voter fraud. The peg?

State's Attorney General has prosecuted Democrats who help seniors vote by mail while ignoring documented Republican ballot box stuffing.

Food Stamps and You

The New York Times and other outlets report that the Congressional Budget Office has some bad forecasts amid a torrent of bad economic news. Unintended Consequences

Rush Limbaugh has come to call his requests for Republican listeners to switch parties and vote for Hillary Clinton "Operation Chaos". Never mind that it is illegal — now Rush is creating problems for his Republican listeners that follow orders.

Links added for reference. The aforementioned article is essentially an indictment of Treasury Secretary Paulson's — and by extension, the Bush administration's — new financial regulatory strategy as little more than a new org chart one might see in a Dilbert strip. I think Krugman's right.

Religious Guilt By Association Card Being Dealt Unfairly

Joe Reynolds is the dean at Houston’s Christ Church Cathedral, and he’s one of the most courageous individuals I’ve ever met. It would be an understatement to say the Episcopal Church has endured a bit of controversy over the past few years. Before our rather diverse congregation, many of the members quite conservative, Joe has met the controversy head-on. Without mincing words, he has shared and explained his views, and his courage in doing so is what I admire the most.

Fiscal Responsibility: You're Doing It Wrong

Spend more - Produce less - Burma Shave:

The Government Accountability Office found that 95 major systems have exceeded their original budgets by a total of $295 billion, bringing their total cost to $1.6 trillion, and are delivered almost two years late on average. In addition, none of the systems that the GAO looked at had met all of the standards for best management practices during their development stages.

Good thing it's a presidential election year — that means there's plenty of filler to run on slow news days!
