The Texas Blue: News

McCain and Overstatement

In the weeks to come, you're going to hear a lot of justification from Senator McCain about the following: while he thinks the war in Iraq is right, he has said all along they were doing it wrong. The press will back him up. He will also reiterate many times that he called for former Defense Secretary Rumsfeld to be canned. The problem is, he didn't. Unfortunately, the press will probably still back him up.

Senator McGrump

Here's the clip of the exchange McCain had with the New York Times reporter:

More Democrats

It shouldn't come as any surprise after the massive primary turnout we've been seeing, but a new AP poll shows that more people are identifying as Democrats these days while Republican rations remain stagnant. That could explain some of the unexpected possible Democratic victories in yesterday's SUSA poll.

Ron Paul Talks of Exiting the Presidential Race

In a new Ron Paul video, the Republican presidential candidate tells his supporters he is focusing on the next phase of the “revolution,” but to continue to cast votes for him at the polls.

Paul received sizable internet support and attained 14 delegates to go into the Republican convention. Paul says a run as a third party candidate would be too expensive, and is more or less out of presidential politics for now.

Honesty in the Media

In a time when businesses issue honesty tests to potential employees and large corporations are found guilty of insider trading, it’s not surprising that over half of today’s public do not trust the press, which is slowly being overtaken by corporations.

Clinton Gets Major Net Fundraising Boost

Barack Obama brought in $54 million in Feburary, but Hillary Clinton just pulled off her own fundraising feat. Between Tuesday primaries and yesterday, she gained $4 million from online donations alone, bringing her online total for March to $6 million so far.

John McCain is Grumpy

John McCain is apparently tired of hearing about that meeting with John Kerry when they discussed McCain possibly running with him in 2004, and laced into a New York Times reporter for asking him about it. Why would a reporter ever want to ask the Republican nominee for president about a little thing like that?

EB. Okay. Can I ask you about your (pause) Why you’re so angry?

McCain: Pardon me?

EB: Nevermind, nevermind.

Yes. Never mind, Senator Grumpy.

Positive Democratic Momentum of an Extended Primary

The Democratic primary for the 2008 presidential election is bringing out record number of voters for the Democratic Party and placing the spotlight on states usually not a determining factor for the presidential bid.

Perino's Short-Term Memory

Once again, the Bush Administration provides a reliable source of amusement. White House Press Secretary Dana Perino told "Fox and Friends" yesterday that she can't remember the press asking her any major questions about Iraq since December, though she admitted that recollection “might not be precise”.

Why is the Media Ignoring Hagee?

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is probably wondering what the rest of us are: why isn't the media scrutinizing John Hagee, or McCain's acceptance of him and his endorsement? Speaker Pelosi spoke up recently and called on McCain to reject the man and his mythos, and I wholeheartedly agree: Hagee is one truly frightening dude.
