Denton County Elections
Sat, 01/05/2008 - 10:04am
Not to be lost in the hustle and bustle of the Iowa caucuses are local elections taking place in our future blue state of Texas. Wednesday night Denton County rolled out nine Democratic candidates for the 2008 elections, the first of this number in over 20 years.
The Denton County Democratic Party hosted a standing-room-only press conference at its headquarters Wednesday night to introduce the candidates to supporters and local media. Neil Durrance, chair of the Denton County Democratic Party, announced each candidate. The candidates spoke for five minutes each and allowed time for questions from the media. A reception followed immediately after the event to allow guests to speak further with the candidates.
Candidates’ speeches were met with applause and cheers from supporters in a traditionally Republican county. The turnout and candidates could signify a shift from red to blue in upcoming elections.
