Friday Vignettes

An ongoing collection of things seen and heard throughout Friday.

5:28 PM - ...and of course, we run out of time. Looks like we'll reconvening after tonight's appearances by Rick Noriega, Chelsea Clinton, and Virginia Governor Tim Kaine.

4:23PM - the room is hot and we're just now getting down to business. We might run a little late.

3:15 PM: Had some lunch at PF Chang's which was delicious. Have moved to the SD30 caucus, which is where I represent. Also, I am pretty pumped to be a delegate.

Noriega to State Representative Mark Homer and some gathered delegates:

I called in to a drive time radio show in Midland-Odessa last week for an interview, and they introduced me, saying "We have the Democratic candidate for the United States Senate, Rick Noriega. Representative Noriega, welcome to John Cornyn country!" And I said, "Oh, did I call Washington DC?"

At the Non-Urban / Ag Caucus, from Congressman Henry Cuellar:

When you want your car to go forward, you put it in 'D'. When you want it to go backward, you put it in 'R'! So which way are we gonna go?

This was a hot applause line.

Between three delegates in the hallway outside the main ballroom:
Delegate 1: "Noriega has guard duty."
Delegate 2: (sarcastically) "Oh, gee, I wonder how that scheduling happened?"
Delegate 3: "Well hey, guard duty worked out for Jimmy Smits on the West Wing that one time."

PS: Rick Noriega is getting the full rock star treatment wherever he goes. He's here, having just finished guard duty - so mystery solved.
