A Holiday Wishlist

As Christmas rolls around again children get excited, put on their best behavior and make their Christmas lists. Some of us adults also bring out the old pen and paper and secretly make our own wish lists.
It seems that no adults have a greater wish list than those involved in politics and they work on their list year round. On the years we file for office the incumbents wish no one would file against them. If they get an opponent they begin wishing for more campaign contributions and lots of support. If the candidates are running for the first time they wish more people knew who they were, and on it goes. Election years make for a lot of Christmas wishes. Every candidate wants Santa coming down their chimney with a bag full of votes.
Of course there are always the past tense wishes: I wish I had won, I wish I hadn’t said what I did, or I wish so and so would have supported me. In some cases they even wish they had, or maybe had not, changed parties.
Some of us ordinary Texans out here also have some wish lists, like I wish Rick Perry wasn't making us pay $9000.00 a month for a place to entertain his friends and contributors. We might also wish Todd Staples would realize he is Commissioner of Agriculture and not a candidate for Governor, or wish Lt. Governor Dewhurst would flunk his public speaking course.
On a personal note I wish some good Democrats would step forth and win some of our state offices back for the party of the people. And of course, I wish everyone everywhere a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.
