McCain's Housing Plan: "Another Hail Mary"

One of the surprises that came out of Tuesday's debate was a new plan by Arizona Senator John McCain to renegotiate all mortgages at current market value. The plan was greeted with general puzzlement, and now that puzzlement is turning into outright disapproval.
Most analysts seem to think the plan would be extremely complicated, too slow to have a noticeable positive effect, and far more expensive than the McCain camp is claiming — prompting Senator Claire McCaskill to say the plan felt "a little bit like another Hail Mary." I suppose after the "suspending the campaign" trick, you can't really go another debate without pulling out another campaign stunt.
