Noriega to Report $570,000
Mon, 10/01/2007 - 4:42pm
Via Quorum Report: Rick Noriega's campaign advised the media today that fundraising efforts brought in $570,000 this quarter. The press release is here, in Word format.
I think an interesting bit of information attached to the total for Noriega's October 15th report was the following from the press release, which puts the $570,000 in context:
Noriega’s fundraising totals put Texas on the map nationally, besting the benchmarks set by 4 out of 5 of the winning Democratic challengers in 2006 Senate races. As the attached chart shows (found in the linked Word doc - ed.), Noriega’s totals put him ahead of the 2006-October 15th filings of John Tester (D-MT), Bob Casey (D-PA), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Jim Webb (D-VA), whose victories last cycle helped secure Democratic control of the US Senate. Noriega’s totals are ahead of all winners except Claire McCaskill (D-MO) who was waging her third statewide race and received much of her support from national donors.
Update: James Aldrete with the Noriega campaign tells me that it was 3 out of 5 candidates, not 4 out of 5 candidates, and that an updated statement will be released shortly. We'll have the text of that for you.
Corrected version:
Noriega’s fundraising totals put Texas on the map nationally, besting the benchmarks set by 3 out of 5 of the winning Democratic challengers in 2006 Senate races. As the attached chart shows, Noriega’s totals put him ahead of the 2006-October 15th filings of John Tester (D-MT), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Jim Webb (D-VA), whose victories last cycle helped secure Democratic control of the US Senate. Noriega’s totals are ahead of all winners except Bob Casey (D-PA) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO), both of whom were already statewide officeholders.
We will no doubt have more items of interest about Noriega's totals, Watts' totals, Cornyn's totals (lest we forget), and the Senate race in general over the next few days as details about the quarter continue to emerge.
