On The Record: Linda McGonagill

For this episode of On The Record, we speak with Linda McGonagill, County Chair for the Bailey County Democratic Party.

What would you say are the primary issues concerning Bailey County?

The primary issues regarding our area are the economy, immigration, the war and agriculture. The issues are very similar to those in most areas.

Do you have any ambition for higher office? Do you have plans to run for any other party office, or possibly even public office?

No, not at this time. It would not be feasible for me right now.

Who are some of your political heroes?

The Clintons are political heroes of mine, both Bill and Hillary. I read a biography about Roosevelt and liked him very much. Al Gore is also a political hero of mine.

What are you looking forward to in the coming cycle?

I am looking forward to electing a Democrat. I like all three of the main contenders. I like Hillary the best, because I feel she is more qualified and ready to start on day one.

My heart wants to vote for Edwards, and I like Obama, too. I am happy with any of the candidates for president.

I want to secure the borders. Secure borders outweigh immigration issues. I am also looking forward to getting our civil rights back.

What advice would you give to young people just getting into politics?

Stay dedicated and stay involved. Read more than the superficial news you hear. The internet is a wonderful tool.

Go to precinct conventions, register to vote and encourage others to vote.

What has been the most valuable lesson you have learned in politics?

I learned that you never know how the vote is going to go, and it goes in cycles. I have also learned that Democrats are for the people and Republicans are for corporations.
