Texas Blue Mailbag: Week of 9/16/07
Fri, 09/21/2007 - 5:30pm
Our questions this week cover a little bit of everything.
Leon asks:
Did you guys hear about God's response to the lawsuit against Him?
Josh responds:
Yes, yes we did. You can read about it here. Or you can join me in pretending that none of this ever happened. I'll be out in the garage all weekend.
Jayme asks:
Why didn't you guys run anything about Talk Like A Pirate Day?!
George replies:
Arrr! Don't be questionin' our pirate credentials, ye landlubber!
Ok, so maybe we didn't. (Sadly.) We are actually torn here at the office. At times we are highly supportive of the pirate faction, but other times we may be in favor of the ninja faction instead. Really, it's a tough call. We wish there were more people talking about a more peaceful, nuanced approach where ninjas and pirates can coexist peacefully. But our level of ninja/pirate diplomacy would have to increase dramatically to somehow have a chance to control all the ninja-on-pirate violence out there, and those moves just aren't being made by the current ninja or pirate administrations. I assure you, until those overtures are made, we are going to see nothing but more unnecessary deaths on both camps.
Lexine asks:
About the kid who got Tasered at the Kerry event in Florida: What was John Kerry supposed to do in that situation? What was anybody supposed to do?
Josh replies:
Man, I don't know. I've heard people criticize Kerry for not doing something, but it isn't as if being a Senator from Massachusetts makes you the Police Commander In Chief in Florida. I like to think of myself as a guy who is brave under pressure, but if I'm in Kerry's shoes, I do what he did. When was the last time you rousted some cops in the middle of a takedown? He would have been criticized for interfering with police work if he had done anything. That's in no way an endorsement of what the cops did: I feel like it was sick and wrong on a very fundamental level, and I'm not alone in that assessment. But I think the criticism of Kerry, for not swooping in and waylaying the lawmen, is over the top.
MJ asks:
Do you think the comments made by President Clinton about being the 'First Man' will reflect negatively on Hillary's campaign?
George answers:
Honestly? I'll think they'll be nothing but good for the Clinton campaign. I think President Clinton knows his place in the campaign, and knows precisely what to do to most benefit the senator without looking like he's taking control of the campaign. Perhaps I'm biased — I also think he's one of the finest political minds in the party in a while, so perhaps some of that stems from that. But I think I have some justification in that opinion.
