The White House was in rare form today, demanding a retraction of a sub-headline from the New York Times.
The headline read “White House Role Was Wider Than It Said,” in regards to the involvement of the administration in the destruction of tape recordings of terrorist suspect interrogations by the CIA.
The NY Times will grant a change in the sub-headline; however, the administration made no challenge to the content of the article.
The article could not be found when searching the NY Times online database, but the summation of the article detailed four top White House officials having previous meetings and knowledge of the CIA’s plan to destroy the tapes. This information was not previously been acknowledged by the administration.
NY Times cited “conflicting accounts” by the administration in regards to the amount of participation by and knowledge of White House officials.
