Coordinating Board Rejects Creation Science Degree Proposal
Thu, 04/24/2008 - 3:02pm
It's not often that there's news items generated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, but today is one of those days. The Coordinating Board rejected a degree proposal from Dallas' Institute for Creation Research for a Master's degree program that would educate science teachers in the doctrine of creationism rather than the recognized consensus of Darwinian evolution. In Which Pat Buchanan Calls Rachel Maddow a Marxist
Thu, 04/24/2008 - 3:00pm
I've been a fan of Rachel Maddow for a long time. When they put her on MSNBC, I figured Buchanan would be her arch nemesis rather than Joe Scarborough. Buchanan just doesn't care anymore. Even though it is, as HuffPo says, non-sensical, it is also sort of entertaining. Maddow looks surprised, but I'm just surprised it took Buchanan as long as it did to bust out with the Red Scare Rhetoric.
Reliable and Predictable

A bill that would make it less difficult for workers to challenge discriminatory pay practices in court was blocked by Senate Republicans yesterday. Rockridge Institute Closing Down
Wed, 04/23/2008 - 3:30pm
George Lakoff's language and framing think tank, the Rockridge Institute, is closing up shop.
In the end, we encountered all these problems. They are endemic to progressive advocacy and politics. We weathered them for years and accomplished a huge amount. Eventually—even with a thousand donors—the funding problem caught up with us.
Applications For the Axis of Evil
Wed, 04/23/2008 - 2:54pm
I didn't expect this to be the next case made by CIA, but here's the preview:
According to a dispatch from Reuters, members of three House and Senate committees will receive briefings centered on a suspected nuclear reactor in Syria that analysts believe was built with North Korean help.
I've always wondered what Syria might get up to while everyone was paying attention to other parts of the Middle East. This might also put the kibosh on all those negotiations on disarmament we've been working on with North Korea, or as the kids call it, NoKo. I will watch where this one goes with great interest.
