The Texas Blue: News

McCain's Real Problem

McCain's real problem is that he is a Republican, and aligned with Bush on every issue. The Democratic Party wins on every issue. There is a new ad out that makes that point, and you can see "McSame as Bush" after the jump.

State Rep Results Across Texas

There were actually races happening outside of presidential politics last night, and many in the state rep realm were of interest, including mixed-to-bad news for Texas Republicans and Speaker Tom Craddick.

The GOP VP

John McCain will have to pick a running mate at some point, and the New York Times runs down the field of likely choices. The important thing to remember about the possible VP choices is that they come from the same group of winners that the Republican presidential candidate field was drawn from. At least he doesn't have to worry about being outshined by his running mate.

The Numbers Games

While plowing through some news and results, I came across this: More Democratic primary votes were cast in this election than votes cast, in total, for John Kerry in 2004. This... means something.

Daily News, 3/5/2008: One for the Books

It has been a long month or so, but the Texas primary is officially in the books, and just shy of three million Texans cast votes in the Democratic primary. Senator Hillary Clinton surprised the pundits by running away with Ohio and managed to win on both popular votes and delegates in the Texas primary.

Tom Craddick Had A Great Night

Showing that he's still got an iron fist and the resources to throw some serious political punches, Speaker Tom Craddick had a great night on both sides of the isle.

Noriega Wins Nomination

As of the 5:01am results on the Secretary of State's Elections website with 99% of precincts reporting statewide, Rick Noriega looks to have won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate with just over one million votes, 50.97% of the total votes cast. This total means that he will not face a runoff with the second highest vote getter, perennial empty suit Gene Kelly.

Clinton Projected Winner Of Texas Primary

NBC and CNN have called the Texas primary for Hillary Clinton. I hope you didn't have anything to do for the next seven weeks, or three months. Dig in and get comfortable - this race is far from over.

The Texas Fight Is On

From MSNBC:

In an extraordinary Clinton conference call -- in which the campaign alleged irregularities in the Texas caucuses -- the top lawyer for the Obama campaign (Bob Bauer) jumped on the call during the Q&A session to rebut the Clinton camp's charges.

Clinton Wins Ohio

MSNBC and other agencies calling Ohio for Clinton; she has a 16 point lead with 67% reporting. She really broke it open up there, and there's going to be plenty to look at.

Update: There's nothing about Clinton's victory speech that makes me think she's ever dropping out. Ever.
