The Texas Blue: News
News Roundup, 3/3/08: Tomorrow is Primary Day
Mon, 03/03/2008 - 9:27am
Last week was a hard one in the news and the weekend was no exception. If you've been waiting for some sort of news bombshell to drop, for good or ill, you were likely disappointed, unless stories about weak fundraising performance by John McCain or possible legal squabbles are included in what you were looking for.
Living the Dream
Sun, 03/02/2008 - 10:42pm
You've heard your Democratic pals talk about it, maybe in hushed tones at precinct trainings or county meetings. Maybe you meet with other local activists for beers, and you talk about the early vote numbers but then that other possibility comes up, and you all wonder about it for a few seconds before trying to dismiss it with a wave of the hand and a roll of the eyes.

The Clinton Media Blitz
Sun, 03/02/2008 - 5:51pm
Sure, both candidates are buying a lot of ads ahead of Tuesday's primaries, but Senator Clinton is really moving and shaking in the popular media. She was on Saturday Night Live last night for the opening bump, and she's going to do The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Monday night. She's also going to do another multi-state, cable-televised townhall meeting on Monday night, and she said at her rally yesterday it will be on Fox Sports Southwest, which, while it isn't Lifetime or Oxygen, is a popular network in Texas.

Mukasey Folds; Bolten, Miers Not Off the Hook
Sat, 03/01/2008 - 9:59am
I guess it shouldn't a be a surprise, but Attorney General Mukasey refused to send the contempt of Congress case against former White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers to a grand jury. The House will file a lawsuit instead.
No Bush

Dow Tanks
Fri, 02/29/2008 - 3:40pm
The Dow dropped over 300 points on the second worst stock of the year, and most of it happened near the end of the day. Economic news is real news, even if the Dow isn't the best general indicator of how things are going.
TDP Counsel on Letters
Fri, 02/29/2008 - 3:12pm
TDP Counsel Chad Dunn tells me he has yet to receive an official response from either campaign. He also clarifies the TDP's position a little, in the face of some arguments from the Clinton campaign that they don't know where the idea of legal action came from: "My understanding is that it was a series of comments over time that, taken in aggregate, were universally taken by TDP staff to be legal threats," said Dunn. "We want to resolve all these issues now. If anyone has a problem with the rules, we'd like to find out and deal with them, because litigation between now and March 4th is going to have one effect and that is to disenfranchise Texas Democrats."
