Debating, Seriously

In last week’s Democratic presidential debate, the tenor and tone clearly showed that Clinton is the front-runner.

She'd better get ready for another round of direct fire from the number two and three positions, Obama and Edwards. Once again, Clinton accused the other candidates of attacking her not because she was a woman, but because she is the front-runner.

Other candidates didn’t get as much airtime, again, as the front-runners. Biden fielded his first question 15 minutes into the debate, and he was obviously less than pleased about it.

I was particularly disappointed in the last question of the debate. It was directed to Clinton and it was about her preference for either diamonds or pearls. Being a woman who doesn’t wear jewelry, as I assume many other voters don’t either, I couldn’t care less which she prefers, and I resent the trivialization of the debate, the discussion of personal aesthetic preferences instead of real issues. In my opinion, questions could be better served to pursue useful, relevant policy information to help voters choose the best candidate for the Party.

The Village Strikes Again

According to the woman who asked that question, she wanted to ask a question about the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste disposal site but CNN's debate staff goaded her into asking the diamonds or pearls question.

I don't know if I've just reached my saturation point or what's going on, but the way the media is covering this campaign grates on my last nerve. I'm not a Hillary Clinton fan, but the ridiculous amount of cattiness and gender lowballing that the Village pundits have thrown her way is disgusting.

If you watch the punditocracy at work, it's like we skipped from 1999 to 2007 in the blink of an eye. And of course these are also the same people who couldn't be bothered to do even a half assed job of journalism in the last seven years when it involved a Bush instead of a Clinton.

Yucca

I would have loved to hear an answer about Yucca Mountain. CNN is definitely not getting a Christmas Card.
