Attention Neiman Marcus Shoppers...

From the state where John McCain flip-flopped on principle, when he mentioned he thought Saxby Chambliss' campaigning against Max Cleland in 2002 was reprehensible before he decided that he wouldn't let a little thing like dignity stand in the way of being a Republican, there's still one final election to be held before we close the books on the 2008 election cycle.

Next Tuesday, Georgia holds its runoff between incumbent Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss and his Democratic rival Jim Martin. Last week, Senator Chambliss had his colleague, Senator John McCain, in the state to stump for him. Interestingly enough, though, the recent former Republican presidential nominee isn't the go-to guy as the Chambliss campaign's closer on the stump.

Instead, they have a go-to gal.

Alaska Governor and former Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin will be in Georgia next Sunday and Monday to try to fire up the Republican base in the run-up to Tuesday's runoff. In a runoff like this one, a figure as popular with the party's base as Palin is worth a whole lot of prime-time ad slots and a week's worth of direct mail.

Interested Texas Blue readers who would like to help replace one of the Senate's worst Republicans with a progressive Democrat can find out how to help Jim Martin here (click on the link in the right-hand tool bar for "Make Phone Calls"). The Obama campaign has made their online phone banking resources available to folks who want to make calls for Jim Martin.

I will be making some calls on Saturday as much for Max Cleland as for Jim Martin. Will you join me?
