Definitely, the argument that precinct conventions are the (or even a) primary driver for Democratic enthusiasm in the state is one that, though commonly believed, is at best backed by anecdotal evidence and at worst has so many conflating factors that defending the idea isn't actually possible.
Trickier still is that nobody's talking about doing away with them -- they're talking about taking out the voting aspect. Obviously, there are folks that showed up to those caucuses that never got involved in Democratic politics again, and there are folks that showed up and got involved that would've gotten involved regardless of whether they got to vote in them. The question mark is the idea that there are folks that showed up that wouldn't have if they hadn't gotten to vote, but that also stuck around to volunteer for the party and make a difference in substantive ways. Do those folks exist? Probably. Do they exist in high enough numbers to have been noticeable? Who knows. And are those numbers high enough to justify ignoring the Equal Protection argument of those who feel disenfranchised by the process? That's the rub, isn't it?
Much easier to solve the problem by getting rid of the voting issue and therefore the Equal Protection argument, while finding other incentives for people to participate in the caucus process. Win/win all around.
I thought that I recognized the woman who said that she hadn't been aware of the two-step, but now is a precinct chair. If I am right, she was a delegate from my precinct to the County Convention two years ago, and has moved to a different County where she is now a precinct chair.
I don't know if it was the energy from the precinct and county conventions or the Obama campaign that propelled her to her current level of involvement. The precinct/county/state conventions that I have attended over the last 4 years (Caucus-based in NV in 2006 and Two-Step in TX 2008 and 2010) have been what has changed me from a democrat who votes a couple of times a year to a Democrat who knocks on doors and works to make a difference.
Personally I have never seen this joke that someone is promoting "Biden 09". I wanted to see this web but it does not work now... It is really sad of that. Have anyone known there I could find more information about this joke? It would be really interesting to hear some responses about it. Well, I will definitely bookmark your website and wait for other such great posts like this one in the future. So thanks a lot one more time for the interesting information and keep up publishing these great entries in the nearest future. Sincerely, Adam Patton from web application development
It is also good thing to have a house plan, but I just came to think foreclosure has being experience now a days. Thousands of individuals lost their homes and were sent running for payday advances to pick up the pieces, and they allegedly not only deigned to gamble on it, they also knowingly repackaged the mortgages and sold them to people, betting they would fail. It seems Wall Street firms do not conduct themselves very ethically, to say the least, and maybe we should start seeing a few a lot more Brooks Brothers suits nailed right to the wall. If Goldman Sachs had nearly as large a role and was as malfeasant as the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) alleges, then they deserve to go down in flames. Thousands of people lost their homes and were sent sprinting for payday advances to pick up the pieces, and they allegedly not only deigned to gamble on it.
Well there is no Ron Paul candidate now running for the top state office. That candidate was sabotaged by one of the national party operatives(GLEN BECK).So,lets move on. The only individual now in the state governor's race that won't push the North American Union, and the confiscating of property to build the highway from Mexico to Canada is Bill White. Do we want a North American Union with new currency and a bureaucracy over ruling our government. NO! Then vote---- Bill White. We don't need more forced vaccinations or refusal to take federal monies(for grandstanding). Do we need an SOB arrogant enough to suggest we secede from the union (again grandstanding for the right wing nuts), That should illustrate the level of intelligence of those supporting Rick Perry. I urge all Independents to support Bill White, don't stay home because you don't like either. Your vote counts.
It was very obvious that Farouk did not know or did not listen and/or understand the questions about
• Same Sex Marriage
• Voter ID
• E-Verify (it appeared that he had no clue what e-verify is, and even when explained, he did not answer the question)
• Governor’s Powers and how the state government works
He continued his claim about being a CEO for State of Texas, i.e. in a total charge of operations
Farouk’s management philosophy includes
• “I conceived it, thus it’s done”, i.e. making a decision tonight and fully expecting it to be implemented before he even talks to anyone – it works in a small entrepreneurial organization where he has the total control and it is his own money – However, how would it work in our democratic form of government?
• In his culture (and business practice) – “cousins” (anyone with Middle Eastern heritage) make no mistakes and family “walks on water” , i.e. the actual professional qualifications are secondary in his mind
Since we have a Black President, we need to have a Brown Governor – Farouk is claiming to be “BROWN” in order to pander to his Hispanic workforce (80-90%) and other minority groups; however according to the US Census criteria as a Palestinian he is WHITE, not a member of any minority group.
Farouk is touting of generating jobs for everyone - Farouk in San Antonio (10/21/09): “I manage business in 106 countries, I have tens of thousands of employees, and we've brought billions of dollars to the state of Texas,” Shami said.
Fact Check:
• Farouk manufacturers the products and sells them to independent distributors/importers (in US and overseas), who in return sell to the salons. He DOES NOT manage these companies. They are his customers.
• Likewise the employees of these distributors or the salons which use his products are NOT Farouk’s employees.
• Farouk has always claimed that he sells only to the professional hairdressers, yet his products can be found in Wal-Mart, Costco, Target, HEB, as well as discount stores.

The company had hired Coral Olsen as human resources manager, according to court records. Olsen, a 15-year human resources professional, declined to be interviewed for this story but said in court documents that she was the company's first human resources director. At the time, the company had more than 300 workers and 1,500 part-time stylists. (Educators teaching classes)
Olsen said in court documents that she discovered several sexual harassment complaints and then met resistance — from Shami and company President Shauky Gulamani — when she tried to implement the company's first written policy on the issue.
"Farouk Systems' arrogance, degradation, treating female employees as inferior and generally talking down to females is simply a matter of course and an established and accepted pattern at Farouk Systems," Olsen said in court documents. "This behavior was persistently defended as the way of their normally accepted Middle Eastern culture."
Court documents show Olsen was fired three weeks after being hired. Farouk Systems denied the claims, and the case was dismissed in 2005.
2) Farouk claims to be Quaker?
Having attended Quaker School does not make Farouk a Quaker – maybe that is all what was available at the time (or even today) for quality education in Ramallah.
• Wikipedia: “The Friends School currently serves as the School for the best and the brightest. It is well known to educate the children of Palestinian elites.”
• MilitantIslamMonitor: “Guilford College controversy Being Manipulated By CAIR -Quaker school tied to pro terrorist Friends school in Ramallah”
• Farouk said that he is Quaker - his family told a reporter that he is Muslim - Farouk then clarified that he is Muslim-Quaker
• King of Jordan had sent his personal message to Farouk Shami (to a Quaker?) during the last two company conferences – Amman, Jordan (2006) and Cancun, Mexico (2008)
• Farouk is a member of, guest speaker to, and honored by many Muslim organizations - He is a member of the Board of the American Task Force on Palestine, as was Tareq Salahi, the Whitehouse party crasher
• Shami : Muslim Media Network Sep 24, 2009 ... Houston hair executive Farouk Shami says his focus is .... At his Annual Ramadan Dinner (Quaker?) at the Arab Cultural Center (ACC) Houston, ... http://muslimmedianetwork.com/mmn/?tag=shami
Who is Farouk Shami? The real issue is not necessarily his religion or national origin but his credibility. Are his Public Statements factual or just Beauty Show hype?
On Friday 30 October, we lost a World War II veteran in Weslaco TX. He was laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park in the same city; with absolutely NO honor guard! Being a disable veteran myself, this was especially disturbing to my patriotic soul. I stongly believe that each and every one of us who served our nation has earned the right to be laid to rest by our fellow borthers in arms. Severino L. Rodriguez was more than just another WWII veteran who passed..... he was my hero. I myself will learn to play Taps and will honor him myself! God speed brother... You will never be forgotten again....
Another Friday News Roundup is President Obama tells visiting Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki the U.S. will push to lift U.N. sanctions imposed against Iraq. Secretary of State Clinton meets with Southeast Asian nations and suggests a "defense umbrella" to protect allies from a nuclear-armed Iran. Vice President Biden goes to Georgia and Ukraine. A panel of journalists joins Diane for analysis of the week's top international news stories. It's Obama's birthday on August 4th, and the President of the United States will be turning 48. Obama's birthday will also bring up one of the most persistent conspiracy theories, the one about his birth certificate – you know, there was a bunch of nincompoops that thought he was born in Kenya, now referred to as "birthers", who are going to be squawking about seeing the birth certificate. (That is not what a lot of people call them – it rhymes with "gum passes". Think about it.) Still, Happy Birthday to the Commander in Chief, and it isn't likely that someone will be running to a payday lender for cake and decorations for Obama's birthday.
According to reports today, the CIA withheld information about a secret counter terrorism program from Congress for eight years on direct orders from former Vice President Dick Cheney. The law requires the president to make sure the intelligence committees “are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States, including any significant anticipated intelligence activity.” But the language of the statute, the amended National Security Act of 1947, leaves some leeway for judgment, saying such briefings should be done “to the extent consistent with due regard for the protection from unauthorized disclosure of classified information relating to sensitive intelligence sources and methods or other exceptionally sensitive matters.” He points out that the CIA already encourages every one of its agents to take out personal liability insurance, just in case they're prosecuted, if one White House decides whatever the cash advance last one authorized was illegal.
A couple of overall impressions, first, kudos to Marc Campos for putting on another very professionally run event. The Latino Summit this spring was also well run and informative. He is providing a great service to the community with these events (thanks to Council Member James Rodriguez for his role in these, as well.) I was surprised there wasn't a bigger crowd and that it was not a more diverse audience. I'm not saying it wasn't well attended and it wasn't diverse, but I thought Latino issues would be a draw for a bigger swath of the community. Speaking of issues, it felt at times more like an accountability session, not a debate and not a debate, but a forum. If there were rebuttals, they didn't register with me. I have a concern about districts being drawn for Hispanic representation. I think it decreases Hispanic participation in voting. A Hispanic will win, so no need to vote. So, the Hispanic vote does not contribute in any sort of big numbers for Mayor, U.S. Senate, Governor, other statewides, etc. A recession is never fun, and the doom, gloom, fast cash, and general air of degradation and decay. It seems that there isn’t ever any good news, at least during this recession.
Sad to hear this. Condolences to the family of Walter Cronkite. May the almighty God bless you more. The death of Walter Cronkite elicited tributes from colleagues, presidents past and present, world-famous astronauts and those who hoped in vain to fill his empty anchor chair, all honoring the avuncular face of TV journalism who became the "most trusted man in America." Cronkite was the face of the "CBS Evening News" from 1962 to 1981, when stories ranged from the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to racial and anti-war riots, Watergate and the Iranian hostage and cash check crisis. He followed the 1960s space race with open fascination, anchoring marathon broadcasts of major flights from the first suborbital shot to the first moon landing, exclaiming, "Look at those pictures, wow!" as Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon's surface in 1969. In 1998, for CNN, he went back to Cape Canaveral to cover John Glenn's return to space after 36 years.
I have been a Republican for years and always felt that I was choosing the lesser of two evils. I am now a party of one (The Minutemen Party). I am sick and tired of incumbent politicians that refuse to take the responsibility for their empowered discretion. Let’s face the facts fellow Americans, our elected officials have botched everything that we granted them charge over. If you and I print money in our basements we would go to jail for a long time but if our officials print unearned trillions it is legal. One military strategy in war time is to infiltrate the adversary’s economic system with counterfeit or unearned money. The idea behind this tactic is to promote complacency by unrestricting purchase power and in so doing incentive is destroyed. We must demand that our elected officials hear our collective dissatisfied voices. We must completely revamp our Government by getting involved in local government. I am seriously considering running for district office and the reason why is because I seek to re-empower the American people. I have no political ties and my loyalties lie with the American people. My idea of Government is echoing the constituents’ voice and implementing their desires in a constitutionally correct way. Consider my views; I am opposed to abortion and homosexual behavior, however, as a district represented my opinion does not matter. On all major issues I would spend tax dollars to allow my constituents to come and vote on the issue at hand. Regardless of my opinion on the issue my stance would be dictated to me by the people I speak for. If the majority voted for abortion and homosexual behavior then I would vote for them as well. When the people speak majority must be herd.

The credit card is one of the worst inventions ever. However, as much evil as a credit card does, it can do some good. Besides making a wonderful coaster for small glasses, and being able to open your door in a pinch if you forgot your keys, they work in an emergency. That's the best use – because using one infrequently will keep you out of debt, and people who can't even afford the minimum payments and have multiple cards are the ones who file often for personal bankruptcy. They work well in a financial crisis, and making only small purchases you pay off promptly will build credit, but a payday loan can work just as well as a credit card and debt consolidation.
As a Maritime Lawyer in Houston, TX I will be interested in seeing how this election plays out. Can being a well connected lawyer in Houston, help McCaul raise the amount of funding necessary to win this race?
Barr returned to the United States, attending the University of Southern California and joining the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity in 1967 (where as of 2009[update] he holds the position of Grand Crysophylos on the fraternity's Board of Directors). Meanwhile, the trend in the post industrial age is for people to work more than the norm, which heretofore was about a 40 hour work week, which means that many of us lack much of a social life. A healthy social life is good, as it turns out. It's important for a person to get out there and do a little credit repair with the human race. Freelance workers who work at home should take notice. It's also great for networking. Go out and do something – go out for coffee, have lunch in the park, go bowling. A payday loan towards having a better social life is debt relief for your own mental health.
I am a Bar Owner in Pasadena Texas. Back in 2007 the city of Pasadena passed a smoking ban that included bars and clubs. During the first 6 months after that ban was passed, most of the bars and clubs were very close to having to close their doors due to lack of business. The bar owners in Pasadena formed a group called Pasadena Bar Owners Group (PBOG) as a group; we approached the Mayor and City Council with our concerns. We pointed out how much revenue that the bars lost and how much revenue the city will be losing in the form of taxes, permits, fees, etc. We also pointed out that no one has the right to dictate a lifestyle choice for people.
We came to an agreement to use logic and common sense in drafting an exemption for bars and clubs. We have taken measure to install state of art air filtration systems, provide medical insurance for employees and enforcing a “No One Under the Age of 21 Allowed” and advising customers that they would be entering an establishment that would expose them to second hand smoke. Allowing them to make the decision to enter or not.
This is the right way to handle this Smoking Issue.
Politicians must focus on how they are going to solve the economic crisis that our country is facing. Nowadays, Traditional banks loans are slipping. Traditional banks loans have become far less available than before as the credit markets have shrunk dramatically, and bank loans are less a part of the operating budget of many financial institutions. This doesn't decrease the demand for them however, and more people are looking into payday loans as an alternative. Granted, you can't buy a house with them, but if you need a short term credit solution, they work. Better still, there usually is no credit checks involved, and many lenders have an online application or over the phone application if you can't get to a store. Cash advance loans may actually be better, in some ways, than traditional bank loans.
And i bet a fact that you never refuse from ephedra free, once you try it!
