Big Oil Decides A Republican Primary

Katy bar the door! The ever-increasing role that the Big Oil meme plays in all levels of our political system took a surprising turn last week in Tennessee. In the Republican primary for Tennessee's First Congressional District, incumbent freshman Representative David Davis lost to Johnson City Mayor Phil Roe 49%-50%. What was the primary reason for Representative Davis' loss? He took money from oil PACs.

While Representative Davis tried to paint Roe as a liar, Roe successfully painted Davis as in the pocket of Big Oil with this ad. That's right, folks...the Big Oil meme decided a Republican primary in one of the most historically Republican Congressional Districts in the United States.

What could possibly be next? A Republican primary where opposition to mass transit costs an incumbent their seat?
