Clark Endorses Clinton

Hot off the internets, former General Wes Clark endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton this weekend.

I was involved in both the Draft Clark and Clark for President campaigns here in Texas in 2004. I got a feeling that the reason General Clark waited so long to get involved in 2004 was because Senator Clinton was weighing her options and that there was a kind of quid pro quo between the Clinton camp and the Clark camp that he wouldn't run against her. I really hoped that he would run again in this cycle, getting involved early and often. He's kept as much of a high profile since 2004 as Senator Edwards and I thought that, if he wanted, he would be well-placed to make an immediate impact and build up a solid grassroots effort.

But, as soon as Senator Clinton declared, I pretty much knew that General Clark wasn't going to be throwing his hat in the ring for the 2008 cycle. I do think that the timing of this endorsement will help Clinton with the attacks on her national security credentials coming from the Giuliani campaign last week.
