Florida Primary Results

The Florida primary was this evening, and it didn't yield any major surprises.

The Democratic primary — which awarded no delegates, as Florida had its delegates stripped after moving its primary to an earlier date than DNC rules allowed — ended with Clinton winning with 50% of the vote. Obama followed with 33%, Edwards 14%, and Kucinich 1%.

The Republican side was also pretty much as polls predicted it would be. McCain picked up 34% of the vote and the victory in the winner-takes-all state, and added 57 pledged delegates to his total. Romney placed second with 31%, Giuliani had 15%, Huckabee 13%, Paul 3%, and Fred Thompson with 1% — apparently some Floridians missed the announcement that he was dropping. Then again, Duncan Hunter had approximately one tenth the votes of Fred Thompson, so one wonders why he's still in the race.

The Florida victory sets up McCain as the presumptive frontrunner heading into Super Tuesday; it does much less for Clinton, as none of the candidates campaigned in Florida and no delegates were at stake, so the media seems hesitant to give much credit for the victory.
