Former AG Jim Mattox Dies, 65

Former congressman and Texas attorney general Jim Mattox passed away last night, the Chronicle reports.

Mattox was elected Attorney General in 1982, and fought for child support enforcement and consumer protections, suing airlines, oil companies, and insurance companies. The "People's Lawyer" continued to serve the Democratic Party well after his time as AG, and could still be seen on the campaign trail stumping for Democrats as recently as this year.

Our deep sorrow and condolences go out to Jim Mattox's family.
