Good News for DCCC, DSCC

Congressional Quarterly has examined the financial action at the national legislative campaign organizations in February and has determined that things look good for Democrats.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised more money in February — $6.2 million to the NRCC's $4.6 million. There's also the current funds situation, which really tells the tale of how things are going nationally for each party:

...the February figures show that the imbalance between the two parties, in terms of money that each House campaign committee had left to spend on races across the nation at the end of last month, grew to its widest yet. The DCCC began March with $38 million left to spend and had $763,000 in debts, compared to $5.1 million for the NRCC, which reported $1.9 million in debts.

The figures on the Senate side were similarly advantageous for Democrats as the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee ran up the score last month:

...the DSCC outraised its partisan counterpart, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), by $4.8 million to $3.9 million, according to the campaign units’ latest reports to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

The DSCC now has raised more money than the NRSC in each of the 14 months of the 2007-08 election cycle, with an advantage in total receipts of $64.1 million to $39.3 million. And the Democrats’ edge in money left to spend on this year’s campaigns looms even larger. The DSCC began March with $32.8 million to spend, more than twice the cash on hand — $15.3 million — reported by the NRSC

It is no wonder that much of the news about legislative races and prospects paints a generally dismal picture for Republicans.
