If Liberals Moved to Canada, Will Conservatives Move to Albania?

And has Governor Perry bought himself some land there yet?

Charles Kuffner nails this one on the head. Remember those guys who threatened to move to Canada if Bush won a second term in '04? And how they got railed on by the Right, and were told that they should? Implication: "We don't want you here. If you're not proud to be a part of the country, you should leave."

Well, now that Governor Perry wants to secede (which, of course, he can't), it would seem like the same argument should apply.

Of course, most of those folks who threatened to move to Canada didn't. They do love their country; they just wanted to voice their frustration. They didn't go and cite inaccurate historical precedent to justify their position, as Perry has. I suppose his more recent backpedaling on the subject comes from his having noticed that he was sounding much more serious -- and therefore much more like a nutball. Either way, I'm pretty sure that wanting to take your marbles and go home by seceding from the United States of America is pretty close to the definition of being un-American. The hypocrisy of the turnaround on that in less than 12 weeks of a Democratic presidency is enough to make my neck hurt.
