Iraq Costs Escalating in 2008

The Iraq War will cost the U.S. $12 million in 2008, according to a new book. "The Three Trillion Dollar War: The True Cost of the Iraq Conflict," by Nobel laureate Joseph E. Stiglitz and Harvard professor Linda J. Blimes, challenges the more optimistic figures coming from the White House.

The White House, predictably displeased with Stiglitz and Blimes' findings, questioned their methodology and even brought September 11 back into the argument. Tony Fratto, a White House spokesman, said that Stiglitz lacks "...the courage to consider the cost of doing nothing and the cost of failure. One can't even begin to put a price tag on the cost to this nation of the attacks of 9/11."
