Iraqi Government Suggests Withdrawal Timetable

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki recently raised the possibility of an Iraqi-supported timetable for US troop withdrawal.

The Bush Administration has always opposed any sort of timetable, and continues to do so, according to spokesman Gordon Johndroe. John McCain was dismissive of the idea. Yet, the Iraqi government's suggestion seems to be in line not only with Barack Obama's idea for a phased troop withdrawal, but also previous statements by Bush, who claimed as late as last year that if the Iraqis want us out, we should leave.
