Mississippi's 1st Congressional District Goes Democratic

The Associated Press is calling the Mississippi special election tonight for Democrat Travis Childers over Republican Greg Davis for the remainder of Republican Roger Wicker's House term.

That makes three Republican seats in short order that have been taken over by Democrats. I just watched Mike Huckabee on MSNBC, king of retail politics, wilt before the camera and acknowledge that the victory is indicative of the Republican brand being badly damaged and of the result boding ill for Republican chances in the '08 general election. I can't help but agree. Though I'm probably doing a lot less wilting on that topic than he is.
