NBC Memo: Donahue Fired Because Not Patriotic Enough

The media continues to legitimately receive criticism for its poor performance during the run-up to the Iraq war.

Next week Bill Moyers has a program broadcast on PBS exploring this very issue. According to forwarded transcripts, an NBC memo on Phil Donahue’s firing from MSNBC signifies some of the madness that was afoot at the time.

The NBC memo states Donahue’s critical approach to the looming war, "presents a difficult public face for NBC in a time of war. At the same time our competitors are waving the flag at every opportunity." This is indeed a very disturbing revelation.
