Poll Shows Deluge of Disillusion for GOP

According to the most recent New York Times/CBS News poll, Republican voters are dissatisfied with their current field of 08 presidential candidates; view their party as divided; and are troubled their party has drifted from Ronald Reagan’s principles.

Presently, the Republican Party is down-and-out. Their hopes for the 08 presidency rest with a field of candidates that rouse little fervor among their most faithful. Republicans have to choose from a cheating liberal, flip-flopping Mormon, and an elderly maverick. All top-tier Republican candidates are atypical, to say the least.

The poll did, however, show an opening for a more war-flexible candidate. According to the poll, 58 percent of Republican primary voters prefer a flexible candidate willing to withdraw from Iraq, than 39 percent who prefer someone committed to stay. This demonstrates an opening for either one of the current top-tier candidates to start changing their tune, or an emerging candidate to step up and take advantage.
