On The Record: John Hardwick

For this episode of On The Record, we speak with John Hardwick, County Chair for the Callahan County Democratic Party.

How did you get started in politics? Did you come to it in your youth or later on?

I became involved in 1960, during the presidential race. I decided the Democratic Party had the best program for the people.

What would you say are the primary issues concerning Callahan County?

It is primarily agriculture in this area. I would see items related to that like drought, oil production are concerns. The economy seems to be fairly stable in the area. I don’t see any major issues.

Do you have any ambition for higher office? Do you have plans to run for any other party office, or possibly even public office?

Presently, I am the mayor of City of Baird, but I am not interested in pursuing any other political positions.

What are you looking forward to in the coming cycle?

I don’t like to pick just one candidate for the Democratic Party. I support whatever candidate we get, as long as a Democrat wins.

What one thing would you say a political organization never has enough of?

I think volunteers and donations are the most important part of the Party.

What has been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in politics?

Nothing stays the same. There are always some changes. I like some changes, and some I don’t.
