Republicans: Liberals Aren't Part of the "Real America"

Sarah Palin isn't the only one making rash, insulting claims about the patriotism of her fellow Americans. Some of her fellow Republicans have followed her lead, blatantly vilifying their Democratic opponents and any American who supports them.

Last week on Hardball, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) defended McCain-Palin's desperate attempt to make an issue out of Obama's brief association with Bill Ayers. In addition to suggesting that Obama "may be anti-American," she called for a witch hunt to root out supposed un-American activities in Congress. She even insinuated that all liberals are anti-American. Bachmann's shrill invective was rewarded with a surge of donations... to her opponent, El Tinklenberg. Not only that, but her Republican primary opponent was so outraged that he decided to jump back in the race.

Congressman Robin Hayes (R-NC) expressed a similar sentiment while addressing a McCain rally, saying that "Liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God." He initially denied making the remarks, but came clean Tuesday, stating that his statement "came out the wrong way."

I can't help but wonder if there is anything else a Republican could do to further strengthen the case for Barack Obama.
