RNC Chairman Mike Duncan Ends Re-Election Bid

UPDATE: Former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele defeated South Carolina GOP Chairmain Katon Dawson on the final ballot and is the new RNC Chair. Chairman Steele becomes the first African-American to lead the RNC.

Voting is taking place this afternoon for Chairman of the Republican National Committee and the current holder of the position has already been voted off the island. Via USA Today's On Politics blog, current RNC Chair Mike Duncan has withdrawn his name from consideration for re-election as RNC Chair after his support waned on the third ballot. As of the fourth ballot totals reported as of 2:55pm Eastern Time, South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson as a two vote lead on former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele.
