Science From The Right: Autism "A Fraud... A Racket"

I was hoping Michael Savage's wannabe-scientific ramblings on kids with autism just being "brats" with bad parents wouldn't actually get much play; the last thing I want to do is give that guy a bigger mouthpiece. But now he's made the Times for his ignorance. I can only imagine the spike in listeners that he'll get out of it.

Calls for his firing are, of course, going unheeded. But his radio station, WOR, did say that “the views expressed by Michael Savage are his views and are not those of WOR Radio. We regret any consternation that his remarks may have caused to our listeners.” Very brave, that apology. I'm sure it's appreciated by the folks who have been trying for forty years to make advances in the diagnosis and treatment of the neurobiological condition and who have now been basically labeled snake-oil salesmen.
