A Season For Opportunities

This holiday season filled with turkey and politics makes me remember a few friends and groups I am thankful for.

When I was 6 years old in 1992, my first election cycle, I worked with my grandma Stella at the Angelina County Democratic headquarters. After meeting the chair of the county and the union workers, the Democratic women's club and all the devoted East Texas Dems... I was hooked.

Since 1992 numerous great candidates have dared to face Texas Republicans, win or loose: Congressman Max Sandlin, Rep. Jim McReynolds, Congressman Jim Turner, Rep. Donna Howard, Rep. Valinda Bolton, Rep. Juan Garcia, Rep. Anna Hernandez, Rep. Jessica Ferrar, and many more. I am thankful that there are true Texas heroes fighting for an honest government for the people.

I am also thankful for East Texas Democrats who raised an East Texas Democrat for the next generation. After working in Washington DC for the last 4 months, it is obvious that we have Democrats working for us, but we need more. To override a Presidential Veto, like the one on SCHIP, we need 290 votes. To get legislation moving in the US Senate, we need at least 10 more senators.

This holiday season I am thankful for all of the caring and giving Democrats from Texas and look forward to us giving more Texas Democrats to Washington, DC.
