Skelly Wins The National Moneython

Republican Congressman John Culberson hit the panic button six weeks ago when it became apparent that his Democratic opponent Michael Skelly was raising money by the truckload.

Culberson scrounged up a little over a quarter of a million dollars in the time since, which is a fiery pace for Congressional fundraising, to be sure. However, Skelly raised $400,000 in the same period and topped out somewhere near $800,000 for the period. The full statement from Skelly's campaign on his top fundraising performance follows:

Skelly Tops Congressional Challengers in First Quarter Fundraising

Houston – With $796,809 raised in the first full quarter of 2008 and $666,506 cash on hand, the strength of Michael Skelly's support in his bid for Texas' 7th Congressional District is clear. Skelly has out raised his opponent, Congressman John Culberson, and is the leading fundraiser among Congressional challengers in the nation. Skelly's fundraising totals show a better than two-to-one advantage over Culberson.

"I'm energized by the support across the District – not just in terms of financial support, but also in their willingness to knock on doors and to build a grassroots movement," Skelly said. "We are gaining the support of Democrats, Republicans and independents throughout the 7th Congressional District."

Skelly is a successful wind energy entrepreneur. He built a two-man business into a multi-billion dollar wind energy company that has created thousands of good-paying jobs for our economy and new energy for our country.

Texas' 7th Congressional District stretches from Montrose and Bellaire inside the 610 Loop outward to Houston's Westside, Jersey Village and Spring Branch. It contains much of the Texas Medical Center, Rice University and the Houston Energy Corridor.

Skelly serves on Mayor Bill White's Green Building Advisory Committee. A graduate of Notre Dame and Harvard Business School, and a former Peace Corps volunteer, Skelly lives in West University Place with his wife Anne and three children, ages 15, 13, and 11.
