In case you had any doubt that the primaries are wrapping up and that the message and directive will be about unity, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton sidestepped the press and got together for a meeting last night to talk about how to best move forward towards November.

By the way, the Blogger's Caucus at Cedar Door was terrific - great turn out, a good time, and even some free hooch (which went pretty fast.) Things have been light around here today because the convention begins tonight and most of us are on the road. I've made it to Austin and the scene around the Hilton is jumping with press and the hardcore day-early crowd. More soon.

I thought John McCain's speech last night was terrible, and not even from a partisan / policy perspective. I thought the delivery and the presentation were bad, the language was poor, and just... man, it was just generally terrible. As it turns out, I am not alone in that feeling.

I have never been a fan of McCain's half-cocked idea to suspend gas taxes because I believe it purports to treat a minor symptom while ignoring a major disease. However, McCain and I don't agree on much, so that wasn't a surprise. However, I was surprised to see the sitting Republican Vice President call it a 'false notion.' That has to sting.

In case there was any doubt: no matter what, there will be no more primary elections after today. South Dakota and Montana represent the last of the contests. As for the nomination, the final decision date on that remains to be seen.
