Did you ever see that movie Love, Actually where England’s Prime Minister, played by Hugh Grant, tells the President that Britain would no longer stand for being bullied by the policies of the United States? It kind of went like that Monday between President Bush and Gordon Brown at Camp David.

For those who don’t live in Dallas proper, all of this hubbub about some road that is to be built along the Trinity River may seem like a bunch of wasted breath and paper. Even within Dallas, many are eager to see an end to the bitter infighting that has resulted from the 1998 referendum to construct the nation’s largest and most beautiful park and recreation area.

Odd numbered years are such an exciting time at the ballot box. November 2007 will be no different, as the Texas Legislature has once again left the wily voters a slew of Constitutional amendments to ponder. Of course, none of us ever really know why we have to vote on someone’s mineral rights in south Texas, but on occasion we do.

“Smelly socks.” That’s what one Texas student said came to mind when he thought about the TAKS test. There could be a more pleasing olfactory reaction for such students in the future.

House Democrats had a busy day.

It hasn't been what I would call incredibly hot news, but there has been some discussion in the last few months over whether Craddick was really allowed to do some of the things he did as Speaker during the session.

As Josh mentioned in one of the field reports on the Young Democrats of America conference last week, he and I did indeed run into Emil Reichstadt at the Dallas convention.

Saturday was the final full day of the YDA National Convention in Dallas. Early attendance was a little on the anemic side as many folks celebrated progressive values into the wee hours of the morning. Democratic Presidential candidate Mike Gravel had to cancel his appearance, but the audience still got its money's worth with DNC Vice Chair Susie Turnbull and Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez.

Could the immigration debate get any more ridiculous? I don't think so. To no one's great surprise, the federal legislation went up in smoke. Now, border states like Texas are left to wrestle with the issue and all its tentacles, and we can expect more of the political grandstanding that has become all too commonplace.
