In this last week's episode of Who's Blue, a focal point of my conversation with Congressman Chet Edwards was the appropriations measure his subcommittee had sent to the floor of the House which increased funding for the VA. It had been under veto threat from the White House because it had asked for more than Bush had recommended in his budget.

Some new polls show that US credibility abroad is dismal. The Iraq fiasco, Guantanamo, kangaroo courts, renditions, secret prisons, and torture are collectively draining US credibility at a dizzying clip. The Iraq debacle alone is so damaging that any number of despots polluting the world will use it for justifying and defending their improper and inhumane behavior.

I was as shocked as you are. I went to my mailbox this week and opened my umpteenth piece of literature from Ed Oakley for Mayor of Dallas. But wait! This was no ordinary lit drop, no ordinary endorsement. It was an endorsement from the retired Republican Denton County Commissioner from Precinct 2, the Honorable Sandy Jacobs.
Embryonic Veto

President Bush has threatened to veto a bill passed by both House and Senate dealing with stem-cell research. It is clear the President’s agenda is not congruent with the American peoples', who have elected the officials in Congress to represent the voter’s views.
Republicans Reject 21st Century Research

Republicans defeated a Democratic bill making it illegal to use cloning technology for starting a pregnancy or generating a cloned human being. Republicans claim their opposition was due to the bill not also covering a ban on cloning technology for the purpose of stem cell research.
