The Texas Blue: News

News Roundup, 3/13/08: Ferraro In The News Again

Yesterday may prove to be one of those days that we'll all look back on as one of the decisive days in this year's primary race that nearly passed us over.

CNN Calls Texas for Obama

It only took a week and a half, but here you go: Obama's projected to win the Texas caucus, giving him the total (non-super-)delegate edge in the state, 99 to 94.

Clinton Leading in PA

Looking ahead to the next big contest, the polls show Clinton with a big lead in Pennsylvania. However, it is a long way to Tipperary, as they say, and the last few days have shown that anything can happen, and happen fast.

While the voters of Mississippi were casting their ballots yesterday, there was a special election in Indiana's 7th Congressional District to replace Democratic Representative Julia Carson. Representative Carson passed away in December 2007.

In yesterday's election, her grandson, Democrat Andre Carson, easily won his first term as Representative from the 7th Congressional District.

The Nationwide Children's Hospital — named for Nationwide Insurance, to honor their $50 million donation — plans on naming its new ER after the clothing retailer to honor a $10 million donation toward its construction.

Some things are just too weird to be made up. See example #2: the McDonald's report card.

Spitzer to Resign Today

Several news outlets are reporting that New York Governor Eliot Spitzer will resign today. A press conference is scheduled for 10:30 AM CST.

Daily Roundup, 3/12/08: Primaries, Admirals, and Oil

Yesterday was a mixed bag: democracy marched on with another primary and reports indicated that even more (!) people are signing up to vote in these later states, but yesterday also brought us the kind of news that may signal bad things for the future, like the resignation of the only sane man at the White House and yet another record high oil price.
