A Belated Merry Christmas

Per the Dallas Morning News, the Texas School Land Board has rejected two private bids to purchase the Christmas Mountains, a mountain range adjacent to Big Bend National Park. The Board will now consider a bid by the National Park Service to add the Christmas Mountains to Big Bend National Park.

Republican Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson had aggressively pushed for the sale of the Christmas Mountains to private interests under the guise of asserting Texans' Second Amendment rights. Patterson's contention was that a bid by the National Park Service that would add the Christmas Mountains to Big Bend National Park would prevent Texans from carrying firearms in the Christmas Mountains and was therefore unacceptable.

Thankfully for all Texans, his two fellow members of the School Land Board did not concur.

Christmas Mountains

As a Texas Sierra Club member, I am glad to see this. At the same time I am worried how the park, which borders the Rio Grande, will be affected by the "border wall".

My guess is that it will

My guess is that it will probably be affected badly.
