Congressman Ron Paul may be officially out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, but McCain's campaign is still looking behind them nervously. The reason: Many analysts have been looking with interest at Libertarian candidate Bob Barr's campaign and its potential to pull more discontented Republicans away from voting for McCain in November.

It's neither a secret nor a surprise that Senator McCain has had some trouble getting the GOP establishment to back him — The Hill had a recent article on how at least 14 GOP congressmen were refusing to support McCain and nearly as many refused to answer whether they would or not. This morning's breaking political news is that Barack Obama, who regularly broke fundraising records on his way to becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee, will not accept public matching funds.

If the avowed mission of the people in charge of accomplishing that mission hasn't been completed over a long period of time, the responsibility for that failure rests with them. Barack Obama is telling the truth when he says that the GOP's tactics and the Bush administration's actions since September 11 are to blame for the fact that Osama bin Laden has yet to be captured. No lectures from Republicans on national security, indeed.

It's nothing new for Fox to display its political bias, but in the last few weeks, comments by Fox analysts and anchors have crossed the boundaries of credibility and decency. Most recently, they used a term at once racist, sexist, and inaccurate to describe Barack Obama's wife.

Well, this is neat. As the Republicans converged on Houston this weekend for their state convention, the Harris County Democratic Party "refuse[d] to yield the spotlight" and made some noise. The Harris County crew is proving to be formidable.

MSNBC is reporting that Washington bureau chief Tim Russert has passed away of a heart attack today while working on Sunday's "Meet The Press" broadcast.
