Bush Notices Something Is Awry

President Bush says '...our economy has slowed.' I'm glad we have him around to keep us updated on the situation. Otherwise we might have missed it.

It's only been awry for ohhhhh two years

I just have to comment on his statement from my end.

Anyone who didn't notice the "slow down" two years ago was blind or ignorant. Or a liar. I will leave it to someone else to decide Bush's adjective.

I have a mother who was laid off from a job two years ago, due to the fact the company that was in business since the 1930s closed its doors for good.

Add to that, I have worked in the shipping industry since 2001. In the years 2002-2006, we had huge increases in imported goods in this country. So much so, I couldn't take the time to comment on blogs from work like I am doing now. Over 2007 and now into 2008, we had substantial decreases in imports and only a tiny increase in export. I now sit here twiddling my thumbs most days, and getting the phone calls from desperate trucking company owners who have no work for their truck drivers, and ever increasing diesel prices to deal with.

The decrease in retail demand, leads to a snow ball effect on our economy. It doesn't just mean that people don't want to go out and buy that TV they would have bought normally. It means when they don't buy that TV, it effects the people who manufacture it, the people who ship it to the country, the people who truck it to the Distribution Center, the people working in that DC shipping it out again, and the kid at the cashier stand. None of those people will have a job for much longer if it continues.
