Dear God: You Have Been Sued

My sister-in-law sent me this story yesterday, and at first I thought there must be some misunderstanding. It isn't real political news, it isn't policy news, and it is more for hilarity than anything else, although I guess if you wanted to have a debate about due process concerning this case, you could: Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers has sued God.

Does God have a residence? Can the suit's filer ever hope to actually serve Him with papers? These are all questions the court must answer. From the AP story:

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

Senator Chambers says he filed the lawsuit "to make a legal point." I simply say that the jury instructions and liability assignment sheets would be something to behold. Er, something to Behold.

Also, how about the unintentionally hilarious picture of the senator with the illustration-style halo behind his head? Is that a camera light rig or something?

And even more questions

Who would represent God, were such a case to go before the court? Would he have to testify? Would he have to swear on the Holy Bible? Who would be holding demonstrations outside the courtroom?

And most importantly, were such a case to go before the court, how much more would the rest of the world be irritated the United States? :)

Contempt

My vote is that He'll be held in contempt of court.

I'm not sure He could be

I'm not sure He could be tried. Does the U.S. have jurisdiction? I doubt He has citizenship in the U.S. He's a foreign national.

more mundane

Baby, that's no camera light behind the Nebraskan senator in his pic. It's a fan on a floor stand. What a nice green, retro thing to do!
Maybe Nebraska's lege meets in a building that's never had air-conditioning. It's a pretty newfangled thing the further north you go in the plains states.
Whatever, I like the subliminal halo idea. If the pic gave you that notion, well then, the art director did a good job choosing it!

This one is crazy...

Does he know how many Gods we have in this world? He needs to specify which one first...and then because he cannot serve "God" himself...he can serve the "children" of that God...transference of liability ;)...
